Colour Guide

Spot Colour
Spot colours are individual colours that are created and used separately. They are traditionally used in a one to three spot colour job, meaning there are only between one and three colours within the entire job.

Tints of spot colours are achieved by using a lower percentage of the original colour to get a lighter effect, which is typically achieved by spacing tiny dots of the original colour further apart. The spots at 100% would be full saturation of the colour, while 50% of the colour would be dots spaced out to achieve 50% of the saturation.

Pantone Colours
Pantone is a universal colour book of specific colours that all have numbers, and is used as an industry standard for colour around the world. If you are using Pantone spot colours, please ensure all of your colours are Pantone specified colours, instead of a mixture of Pantone, RGB, CMYK. This will ensure better colour matching of your artwork.

Full Colour - CMYK and RGB
Full colour is achieved by combining base inks to achieve any colour. In CMYK this is done using Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. RGB this is created by processing the Red, Green and Blue colours. Using either CMYK or RGB is also called 'process colour' as they are combined in the printing process.

RGB Versus CMYK
Our specialist label printers work best in RGB format, which is different from most printers that work in CMYK. Using RGB means your artwork can take advantage of the additional colours now available for our printers, including light cyan, light magenta, light black, orange and green. Please ensure your artwork is created in RGB mode - this is an option when creating a new page in your drawing programme.

Colour Space
Please ensure that you only use RGB mode and all colours are converted to RGB. A mixture of RGB and CMYK colourspaces can cause printing issues with your artwork.

Process Black
To create a consistent black, please use the same process black values for all of the black in your artwork. Variances in the colour values will create differences in the printed product. For example, pick only one black to use, e.g. R35 G31 B32.
